Description:
The incumbent will play an important role in exotic pest detection in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. Primarily, the incumbent will be responsible for installing, baiting, maintaining, and collecting Lindgren funnel and Intercept Panel traps in the field to detect the presence of exotic wood boring and bark beetles. Incumbent will also be involved in other exotic pest detection surveys including Spotted Lanternfly visual surveys. This work will require working in a variety of environments including storage sites, nurseries, rail yards, industrial sites, forests, ports of entry, etc. Incumbent will be responsible for collecting insect specimens and recording data. Some data collection will require the use of GPS, iPads, ESRI Collector and other data management systems. Work will require extensive DAILY travel in CT/MA/RI using a government vehicle. Incumbent will work mostly independently and as part of a team for visual surveys. Duties will involve routine interaction with the general public and businesses.
The work environment primarily consists of outdoor activities with moderate exposure to uncomfortable and dangerous situations such as working in adverse weather conditions and hiking while carrying moderate loads up to 50 lbs. In certain situations the incumbent must take precautionary measures to ensure his/her personal safety (such as wearing protective clothing).

Basic Requirements:
Employee must have a valid US driver’s license and US citizenship. Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word are required. Employee should have experience performing the duties described above or have completed coursework at the college level that includes scientific or technical courses such as biology, chemistry, entomology, botany, agriculture, etc.

Temporary, full-time position (Not to exceed 180 days).
Potential dates of employment are: April 12 – December 4, 2020 (DATES NEGOTIABLE)
Schedule: 40 hour/week; 4/10 hour days, Tuesday – Friday
