Meet 2021 NESAF Chair-Elect Candidate – Diana Frederick

(Green Mountain Division)

Hello my name is Diana Frederick and I am running for Chair-elect to the NESAF Executive Committee. I became an SAF member in 1977, while still a student at the University of Vermont (UVM). I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Forestry from UVM in 1979. Later that year I started my career with the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation (FPR) in Springfield, VT as a Protection Specialist working on insect, disease and fire control issues. I made a move to State Lands management in 1982 and then to Barre, VT in 1984. The remainder of my time with FPR was managing state owned lands in central VT and 20-years as the State Lands Stewardship Forester responsible management of approximately 90,000 acres and a staff of 4 people. I retired from FPR in July 2019.

I served on the Green Mountain Division SAF executive committee during the late 1980s, and then served as a member of the Forester Education Committee planning Div. trainings and meetings. Recently, I assisted with the last two NESAF winter meetings held in VT as the lead for Exhibitors and Sponsors and the silent auction.

I found a quote by Theodore Roosevelt many years ago and believe it to be still true today.

Every person owes a part of their time and money to the business or industry in which they are engaged. No person has a moral right to withhold their support from an organization that is striving to improve conditions within their sphere.” (And yes I changed the pronouns to make it gender neutral.)

Since I hold the above quote to be true, and after much thought and consideration, I decided it was time to give back to an organization I have belonged to for over 40 years. I would appreciate your vote and look forward to the opportunity of serving as Chair-elect to the NESAF Executive Committee.
