The Nature Conservancy in New York seeks a team-oriented and conservation-minded forester to help us grow a rapidly emerging climate change mitigation and forest conservation program centered around forest carbon offset markets. The successful candidate will have a commitment to sustainable forestry and experience with 3rd party forest certification programs, demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, strong technological and analytical skills, and a willingness to learn about forest carbon offset projects.
In this position, the Conservation Forester will collaborate broadly with landowners, project partners, contractors and other Conservancy staff to achieve climate change mitigation and forest conservation goals in the NY Division. As a core member of the NY Working Woodlands Program, the Conservation Forester will also lead and/or coordinate activities related to third-party forest certification, sustainable forest management planning and operations, forest inventory data collection, analysis and management and other related aspects of forest carbon projects. They also provide critical project management support and capacity for all aspects of forest carbon project development, collaborate across operating units and functional areas within the Conservancy to advance collective goals and projects, and build knowledge and expertise around sustainable forestry practices, forest carbon sequestration, climate resiliency and carbon markets.
