Request for Quotes: 2021 Adirondack Terrestrial Invasive Species Early Detection and Rapid Response Crew
The Nature Conservancy / Adirondack Park Invasive Plant Program
Keene Valley, NY

Description:
The Adirondack Park Invasive Plant Program (APIPP) is one of eight Partnerships for Regional Invasive Species Management across New York State and is hosted by the Adirondack Chapter of The Nature Conservancy. Our mission is to protect the Adirondack region from the negative impacts of invasive species.

Each year APIPP contracts with a seasonal early detection and rapid response (EDRR) crew dedicated to the detection and management of invasive species. This EDRR work is a hallmark of our program and in the last twenty years, APIPP has tracked more than 6,ooo invasive species occurrences. At least 1,000 of those occurrences no longer have invasive species observed.

The EDRR crew helps contribute to research about the spread of invasive species by conducting extensive surveys for wetland and terrestrial invasive species, as well as forest pests. The crew is also responsible for the management of infestations of wetland and terrestrial invasive species such as Japanese knotweed, common reed grass, tree-of-heaven, purple loosestrife, black and pale swallow-worts and yellow iris, among others. Crew members use best management practices which may include, but are not limited to, hand-cutting, pulling, digging, or herbicide treatment.

The contractor must be able to provide a four-member crew, comprised of one crew leader and three crew members, who are available Monday-Friday for up to 15 weeks from early June through late September. The Vendor must be a New York State registered pesticide business or must become one prior to the start of the contract. Additionally, the crew leader must be a New York State Pesticide Applicator, certified in at least category 3A, or must become certified prior to the start of the contract. Crew members must be able to serve as herbicide applicators, technicians or apprentices under the crew leader or off-site supervisor for the entire duration of the contract period. All crew members should have some familiarity with invasive plant identification.
