Seasonal Forest Management Technician I

Description:
The DNCR administers a Management License on four Flood Control Reservoirs within the Merrimack River Basin, owned by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. These lands are managed in a cooperative manner by DNCR to sustain and protect important forest and wildlife resources.
The Forest Technicians will assist the Project Forester in forestry and wildlife habitat projects on the four properties. Duties shall include: timber stand improvement (TSI), boundary line maintenance, forest inventory, tree removal and road maintenance. When possible, training opportunities will be available in timber sale layout, harvest inspection, and occasional forest health projects.
Applicants are expected to be familiar with the use of compass, prism, and GPS. Applicants should also be familiar with the proper maintenance and safe operation of chainsaws. Duties require travel throughout the four properties and the use of personal vehicles will be required. Applicants must posses a valid driver’s license, insurance and reliable transportation. Mileage will be reimbursed at the State Rate of 56 cents per mile.
This position requires at least two years of formal training from an accredited college or technical institute with a major study in forestry or wildlife. No experience is required to apply.
