The City of Rutland Department of Public Works has a job opening for an Assistant Forester. Under the management supervision of the City Engineer, the Assistant City Forester/Arborist is responsible for supporting the work of the City Forester/Arborist in maintaining the Rutland City urban forest and the Rutland City watershed forest using modern and accepted forest management practices. Other duties may also be required as determined by the City Engineer.
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of Forestry or equivalent experience. In addition, they must have two years’ experience in forestry or related field. A valid Vermont driver’s license is required at time of hire. A commercial driver’s license (CDL) must be acquired within 60 days of hire. Certified Arborist status through the International Society of Arboriculture and membership in the Society of American Foresters are preferred.
This position requires a self-motivated individual with a high degree of flexibility and willingness to multitask. This is a Union position, and successful candidates must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
