SCOPE OF WORK: To implement professional and technical forest resource management and survey duties in the Division of Forests and Lands, Department of Resources and Economic Development.
Recommends levels of forest sampling; determines location and establishes forest sample plots; collects and analyzes forest and wildlife habitat inventory information; and prepares summary reports and maps for use by the Forest Management Bureau.
Plans and supervises forest operations in assigned region including operation control and inspection, forest mapping, timber estimation and marking for sale.
Develops and recommends long-term management guidelines for public lands using complex scientific data and principles.
Obtains costs for contracting outside personnel and equipment; prepares contracts and agreements; inspects the execution of contracts for standards and compliance.
Prepares public notices and permit applications for forest operations.
Develops and assists with public education programs, such as meeting with groups regarding management of state owned lands and interpretive signing of projects.
Prepares summary reports of accomplishments; including forest operation reports, boundary line maintenance summaries, work and contract accomplishments, and results of assigned duties.
Supervises timber harvesting operations, develops the prescription for silvicultural treatments, develops sale layout, and truck road layout, appraises harvest volumes and values.
