The Alaska Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry is seeking a highly motivated person to fill the Tok-Copper River Area Forester Position. This positions will oversees forest and fire management on 32.6 million acres in the Tok and Copper River Areas in eastern interior Alaska. This position will lead area staff in providing fire management and forest management services for lands within this immense area and in conducting forest resource management, including timber sales and habitat enhancement, on state lands. Tok-Copper River fire management responsibilities include urban-interface and wildland fire prevention and response with an active fire season from early April through September or later.
The mission of the Division of Forestry is to develop, conserve, and enhance Alaska’s forests to provide a sustainable supply of forest resources for Alaskans. Tok Area Forestry (TAS) has a public safety mission by suppressing wildland and urban interface fires on over 8 million acres of land in the Eastern Interior region of Alaska. TAS is characterized as having a very busy summer fire season. The Tok Area is on the eastern end of the Tanana Valley State Forest and this position is responsible for ensuring timber and forest products are made available to businesses and individual Alaskans.
