Job Announcement: State Lands Forester – Division of Forests, Rutland District
The Vermont Department of Forests, Parks, and Recreation is excited to recruit for a State Lands Forester in the Rutland District of the Division of Forests. The Department manages a wide variety of public lands and serves to protect and enhance forestland, natural resources, and outdoor recreation throughout Vermont, and this is an exciting opportunity with professional growth potential for someone interested in working on public lands within the great State of Vermont. The successful candidate in this position will be involved in all aspects of forest management as part of the close-knit State Lands team of resource professionals with the chance to grow in many areas. This position will include participate in timber sale preparation and administration; implementing forest-based recreation projects with partners; road maintenance and oversight; and boundary line maintenance. The successful candidate will also serve on the Rutland District Stewardship Team, a group of experts from the Departments of Forests, Parks, and Recreation, Fish & Wildlife, and Environmental Conservation that provides multidisciplinary planning and project review for Agency lands.
This position requires a working knowledge in forestry, forest ecology, forest-based recreation and GIS, and a broader awareness of environmental issues in northeastern forests. In addition, the successful candidate will be able to communicate effectively, manage several projects at once, and develop strong working relationships. The position is based in Rutland and while many of the duties for this position will occur primarily in a field setting, associated office work will be required.
