LandVest Forest Resources Division is looking for an energetic, entrepreneurial, and dedicated professional for a GIS Technician position to support our growing forest management business throughout the Northeast United States. The position will also include supporting our nationwide timberland transaction business. The GIS Technician will join a team of highly skilled and experienced GIS Technicians and Analysts. Ideally, the position would be located near Newport, VT, but close proximity to any of LandVest’s forest management offices or remote options will be considered.
This is a full-time salaried position with benefits as described below.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 Cartography: Creation of harvest and activity maps, stand, property and marketing maps in digital and print formats.
 Data Integration & Management: Assimilate client provided data into LandVest systems, periodic updates of sensitive resource data acquired from public natural heritage databases, edit spatial and tabular data based on information provided by field foresters
 Inventory Layout: Distribute forest inventory point features following specifications provided by inventory team

Minimum Requirements:

 Bachelor’s degree in GIS or Associate’s degree with post-graduation experience.
 Experience with the ESRI suite of GIS & GPS products including ArcPro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, Field
Maps & Survey123. Familiarity with scripting/automation is a plus (Esri’s Model Builder, Python, R, etc.).
 Strong verbal communication & technical writing skills. Proficient at process documentation.
 Ability to problem solve, independently manage a dynamic workload, and having a strong attention to detail.
 Ability to work with a broad variety of internal staff and external clients and colleagues in a collaborative environment.
 Strong computer skills in most elements of Microsoft Office.

The Ideal Candidate will:

 Have a minor in forestry or forestry field experience – operations or forest inventory
 Familiarity with Vermont’s UVA and/or New York’s 480a property tax abatement programs
 Experience with Lim Geomatics’ Stratus or similar forest management system/enterprise resource planning (ERP)
 Strong organizational skills and a systems-integration mindset
