Topics and Presenters: The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife owns about 110,000 acres of land throughout the state, known as the Wildlife Management Areas. The Frye Mountain WMA, located in Montville, Knox, and Morrill, is actively managed for wildlife habitat and public access to enjoy traditional recreational activities. Spend the day at Frye Mountain WMA with Jack Chappen and IF&W staff to learn about the ecological forestry used to manage forest habitats, the significant improvements made to 150+ year-old roads for improved water quality, and the variety of other activities for the creation, maintenance, and improvement of wildlife habitat. The tour will be around a 2 to 3-mile loop of the varying forest types with undulating terrain.
