Low-Density White Pine Management

Sep 16, 2021
8:30 AM - 3:30 PM

Eastern white pine is one of the most abundant and highest-valued species in New England. The health of the species and declining abundance of regeneration is a concern for landowners and forest managers. Join us September 16th or 17th for a field tour of Bear Brook State Park with experts discussing white pine management,
forest health, and specifically low-density management.

This workshop offers an opportunity to hear from managing foresters from the NH Division of Forests & Lands and discuss their silvicultural trials in low-density white pine management. The low-density management discussion will also include perspectives from forest health experts, wildlife biologists, and others. Tom Addington from Addington Equipment, Inc. will be onsite to demonstrate his mini feller-buncher in a TSI and low-density harvest at Bear Brook. The tour will be in the field visiting sites at Bear Brook including an overstory removal, TSI demonstration, crop tree release, and multiple entry low-density trial plots.

Presenters include William Guinn, Scott Rolfe, and Kyle Lombard from the NH Division of Forests & Lands, Ken Desmarais from the U.S. Forest Service, Matt Tarr from UNH Cooperative Extension, William Livingston from University of Maine, and Nicholas Brazee from University of Massachusetts.
